« With four dancers, two men and two women, Mourad’s choreography constantly develops as a sensitive and poetic dialogue between the five artists. Step by step, the dancers slide the base of the musician whom they accompany with a solo, pas de deux or in quartet. The hip-hop is soft, fluid, elegant and feline so as never to break the magic of the musical interpretation, sometimes supplemented by the electro sounds of Arandel.
The soft lights, very well conceived by Yoann Tivoli, delimit the spaces while highlighting this baroque musical instrument which is deliciously at odds with the contemporary dance movement. »

« Mourad Merzouki’s taste for openness and his art of mixing genres are well known. In this latest creation, he promises us an encounter, a dialogue and a fusion on stage of hip-hop dance with ancient music... and a touch of electro. [...] We can already tell you that Yoann Tivoli’s subtle lighting will be the setting for the singular encounter between
Lucile Boulanger’s bewitching viola da gamba and the precision of Mourad Merzouki’s four sublime dancers’ gestures... »
Bulles de gones
« Since Folia, Mourad Merzouki’s desire to mix baroque music and hip-hop dance is well known. He continues this experiment with Phénix, for a more intimate format, between four male and female dancers and a viola da gamba player, accompanied by additional
electro music. Or how such different aesthetics blend, question and respond to each other to create a singular form. »
